Senate, House Ready "Sunset" Legislation
I reported recently that House leadership intended to bring up legislation this week to establish a "sunset commission," which would force federal programs to plead their case before an unelected panel that would then recommend to Congress whether the programs should be terminated. However, today we learn the legislation is not yet ready, and House leadership will take some time to refine their package and likely bring it up next week.
“Sunset commission” legislation is moving this week, however, in the Senate. The Senate Budget Committee will meet tomorrow morning to consider the Stop Over-Sending Act of 2006 Act, sponsored by Senator Judd Greg (Republican from New Hampshire), Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, which would (among many other things) establish a sunset commission. More to information soon.
